Springy cotton

The first thing I'm going to do once I achieve a "longer, leaner" body is to stock up on some Rachel Pally! I love her Spring/Summer 2005 collection. Here are some of my favorites:

*I love that the proportions of the top and belt elongate the torso, creating an even leaner look. Also I love the color of the gauchos, perfect to wear with espadrilles and other earthy sandals.

*I really like the flare of this dress, making it a fun option for both weekend lunches and casual nights out.

*I am in love with these boleros... they don't drape across the front of your chest like cropped cardigans do, which sometimes make you look top heavy. Also the stretchy fabric doesn't constrict movement. I can't wait to see one in person to try on!

*I especially love the cut of this tank top because even though it is dainty on top, it hides the midsection with a slight empire bustline. The shorts here are cute too although I'm not sure many people can pull that off. I also love the necklace the model is wearing, does anyone know where I can find necklaces like these?

*Even though I love Rachel Pally's gauchos, I think I may like these capris even more. The detail at the hem give the pants some weight so the fabric is pulled down, giving the thighs a slimming illusion. They are great to pair with lace-up "greek" flats or even with high-heel platforms.

*The cut of this dress looks is flattering around the midsection yet the color combination of the fabric gives it a casual elegance. Again, does anyone know who these necklaces are by???

Marc by Louis Vuitton

Okay I'm still on pins and needles waiting for the Louis Vuitton Manhattan to come out (I'm on the list at 2 different stores for the smaller size) but then I saw this...

?!

LV in the Venetia too? I wish I can see what the front of this looks like. Or is this the larger size of the Manhattan? The small Manhattan definitely doesn't have the middle strap so I'm not too sure. Oh well, I'll have to make a trip to the LV store and find out.

Health & Fitness

Fashion exudes from what you wear and how you wear it. I've been giving too much attention to what I wear... and definitely have been shunning how I wear it. In 2 weeks I have a formal wedding to attend. I have a gorgeous gold backless gown that I bought a year ago but haven't found the right occasion to wear it to, until now. Unfortunately, over the past year I've filled out in places unforgiven by the gown. So I have 2 weeks to shape up.

But, of course, this isn't my only excuse. I've generally been ready to start a new healthy lifestyle but Lay's Baked Potato Chips have always gotten the better of me. My new plan: no crash diets, no promises that are nearly impossible for me to fulfill. Just take things one step at a time. Just focus on the light at the end of the tunnel... I'm hoping my entire wardrobe will look like new once I have a new bod. :)

Health:
I was watching E!'s Celebrity Super Secrets... and there was this part that went something like "To fatten up for her role as Bridget Jones, Renee Zellweger indulged in a diet of pizza, bread, pasta, chips, chocolate and french fries." Wait- that's MY diet! There are so many diets out there... there's Oprah's "No whites" diet to avoid pasta, white bread and rice. There's the raw diet that seems the least appetizing. Then there's the zone and the south beach diet which are way too complicated to attempt without a nutritionist or a personal chef.

So I decided to mix the best of all the diet worlds and came up with a feasible plan for myself. First of all, I rarely eat vegetables. I've committed myself to drinking a bottle of green veggie juice every morning. No, no more of those thousand-calorie Jamba Juice smoothies. I'm talking about the individually bottled green veggie juices you see in the produce section that make you go "ewww". I figure... do I want to make a meal of boiled vegetables or just down a bottle of juice? I'll take the juice.

The rest of my diet is a little bit stricter. I am going to stay away from whites. No pastas, white bread or rice. But I will allow myself brown rice, or whole wheat/grain pastas and breads. No obviously unhealthy foods which means use common sense and cut out junk food, chips, fried chicken, cheeseburgers and all those other foods that go straight to the waistline. I'm going to try to stick to as much raw food and veggies as possible... juice, salads and sushi.

And of course the toughest part of dieting are the cravings. So now as soon as a new snack craving pops into my head, I rush into the bathroom and brush my teeth, floss, start cleaning my teeth until I forget about In-n-Out's animal style french fries. Then I pop in a tictac (lime flavored!) It's amazing what minty fresh breath does to a food craving!

And last but not least, no late night eating. I've been known to make a Jack in the Box run in the middle of the night... but no more. 8pm is the absolute cut off. Dinner is my last meal. So I'm not completely starving myself... in fact this diet should be feeding me more of the nutrients I need to gain more energy for the fitness portion of my two week transformation.

Fitness:
I guess it makes me feel better that celebrities have to work out 5-6 times a week to get their lean figures. I didn't think they had to work so hard at it, especially after Gisele Bundchen's comment "I never work out. I never go to the gym. I've never gone to the gym in my entire life." Thanks Gisele. So knowing that Jessica Simpson's Daisy Dukes body took her 2 hours a day, 6 days a week makes me feel somewhat better. It's fueled my motivation to start working out more regularly. That and the fact that I really don't have much else to do during the day.

I've done Pilates here and there, I've done strength training... but there is one thing that I have been avoiding... cardio. So for now I'm going to start playing tennis again as well as go out and discover new fitness classes. There are some new fusion fitness classes in West LA that I've been dying to try like Core Fusion's Pilates/Ballet/Cardio in Venice or absolution's spy school. Also I have a gym right here in my building so I really should take advantage of the treadmill. And of course, I live across the street from Winsor Pilates so there really shouldn't be any excuse for me to make the 1 minute walk across to my prepaid mat classes. Really, no excuses.

Well I've completely strayed from my usual posts... I am taking somewhat of a short shopping hiatus until I get back into shape. This cold/hot/then cold again weather transitioning us from winter to spring is the perfect time to live in sweats and concentrate on working out. In a week or two, when the sun comes out, it'll be time to step out in marc jacobs printed skirts, james perse cotton dresses and skimpy great wall tank tops.

But for now, who says you can't sweat and look fashionable at the same time? I'm getting ready to head out to adidas to check out Stella McCartney's new line.

Polling the masses

I'm thinking of adding polls to this site... to gather opinions such as 'do or don't', 'yay or nay', 'which color', etc... so what do you think? Yay or nay?

I'll start with a test poll first... and we'll see how the results are!

The post about the magazine about shopping.

Any Lucky readers? I am not really a big fan of Lucky Magazine (it really is just a marketing conspiracy... exclusively geared towards shopping and not at all to fashion) but I had a subscription a couple of years ago that just never stopped coming.

Anyhow there IS something I am addicted to... those "YES!" and "MAYBE?" stickers. They've gotta be the second best thing next to shopping. Okay make that third, online shopping is second. So... what is your sticker method?

As for me, I have altered the meanings of yes & maybe just slightly. They never give enough maybe stickers so my "YES!" stickers now mean "Yes, I will make it a point to check out this item at a later time and buy it if I love it." and my "MAYBE?" stickers mean "Man this is so expensive but I will keep in mind to lust after it again later by marking it with a maybe."

So, with that said, here are my Yes!'s and Maybe?'s for this month:

I've always loved the look of delicate hoops but the position of my ears can make them point outwards instead of straight... so these should solve the problem! Not sure yet about shelling out $80 for a pair of earrings without trying them on first... so we'll see.

I love the look of this sweater wrap... now that it's almost spring it's time to put my BCBG cardi-wraps away and look for a lighter version. However, at $430 this one deserves a "Maybe?" sticker instead of a "Yes!" one.

Won't these look cute paired with light cotton tank tops? For casual white tank and jean days, these will pop out a little bit of color... kind of a new "layered but not really" look. After all, layering tank tops is so last year.

I like this look. I tried some similar shorts at A&F but vowed to shed a few pounds before I take this look to the street. Unfortunately, it only looks good on stick-thin people. (i.e. Nicky Hilton)

Tanning beds dry out my legs. Tanning creams look blotchy as skin cells die and shed. Tanning outdoors in LA? That's not until I get my body bikini ready. So for now, I shall experiment with this mist. :)

The more I see this satchel the more I love it. Of course all of you should know by now I love my bags with lots and lots of pockets. But the price is kind of steep for a Coach bag... I'll have to see first if I'm going to get my LV Manhattan since it is a little bit similar.

This is a maybe that I am probably never going to own, but I thought it deserved a mention.

I like sweet, girly, pinky-beige prairie skirts. I do NOT like printed ones that look like quilts gone bad.

This I will definitely have to check out. I thought these earrings were cute (maybe with a messy bedhair bun? you know, the one that takes me about 45 minutes to style :P) and at $18... can't beat that deal. Not to mention you get $10 off a $30 purchase for mentioning luckymag. Yay!

And if none of the above items make it into my closet, then I shall stock up on these. I like polos, I love Le Tigre colors, but up to now I've been passing them by. Polos are tough to actually purchase because they're just basics... there's always something more attractive in the store that grabs my attention so I've never had the chance to buy these polos. But here they are 25% off so maybe this time I'll buy some.

Back from Beauty School!

The Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills only had the Beauty Gift bag left in a black. I took one home along with two things:

YSL's Touche Eclat in Light Peach
So many of you have raved about this concealer that I had to try it for myself!

Chanel's Ruban Perle in Moonlight
Since this is a limited edition item, you need to stock up before they run out! Great as a shimmery creamy shadow at night, also doubles as a highlighter during the day!

I haven't tried the Touche Eclat yet... but I will have the YSL vs. C.Dior verdict tomorrow after I play around with both!

I was in a bit of a hurry during my NM visit but I did notice that they had a LOT more "gift with purchase" offers at the store (even more than the website). So if you have yet to go to NM, I would suggest you go soon before these are all snatched up!

My favorite gift with purcahse:

This La Mer travel set with a $250 La Mer purchase.

Kate Spade and Blisslabs also had good gifts with purchase that are available in store only.

Also, this was my first time really browsing through NM's beauty department and they have such an extensive Shu Uemura counter! I love some of their eye colors... does anyone have any experiences they'd like to share with Shu eyeshadows? Do they come on nicely, do they stay put? I might have to go back sometime to try some on.

Website Discovery

Sure I love girly things, but as you all can see I'm really into gadgets as well. Cell phones, digital cameras, mp3 players: I always crave the newest one in the game. So what better than to mix the wonderful world of girly fashion with the latest technologies? I found a website that does a great job of finding the coolest gadgets out there with a femme twist.

Another rainy day favorite...

Last week I went to Kitson and I picked up an A. Kurtz hat. I usually have a tough time finding hats because even though I have a medium sized head, I have a pretty small forehead. That means almost any hat makes my head look twice bigger. And of course that especially means no trucker hats for me (thank God).

One thing I liked about the Kurtz hats was that they come in sizes. I went a size up to a large and it was the perfect size for me to cap over my ears and it did not make my head look too big. I think it also has something to do with the flat military shape.

Of course on my way home I picked up a copy of US magazine and what do you know inside is Lindsay Lohan wearing my hat. Oh well. Then later that night while browsing shopkitson.com I saw that the hat is actually dubbed the "Paris Hilton" hat. Great.

But whatever. This hat has saved me from numerous raindrops and I'm still loving it. Especially to wear with my new Project E "Preppy" Polo shirts. (I bought a blue and a pink) Rainy weather is all about comfort clothes.

These rainy days

What best to do on a rainy day? Stay dry, stay inside, and knit! I was recently inspired by kinsiekins' new scarf project. I loved the big chunky yarn so I had to find some for myself! Yes, I do realize that winter is almost over but once in a while I get into these yarn frenzies and I can't help but to start knitting again. I had about 3-5 unfinished scarf projects sitting in my close but I still couldn't resist. I forced myself to finish one of them for now before I bought new yarn though:

It is a homespun wool in a very light blush pink. I love the inconsistency of the color and thickness: some of it is a solid blush pink and the rest is a very dirty pale-pale pink. I finished the main scarf but I'm not done with it entirely. I wanted to either add another color to make it thicker or to embellish it with pale pink distressed ribbons a la Cecilia DeBucourt. Any suggestions?

Anyhow, turns out there is a cute little knit shop on Barrington Walk (near Sunset) that carries Rowan Biggy Print yarn. These are the colors I picked up:

I especially love the cream color on the bottom... it is actually a very pale yellow/cream mixed with a dull purply-grey. I've started on my first project today! I hear it's going to rain tomorrow... that means chilly weather... I hope I finish my scarf in time :)

Need your vote!

I'm sorry for the lack of updates lately... I've been doing a lot of shopping but right now my house is a mess and I haven't been able to take pictures in my "studio"... I wanted to wait until I have pictures to show of my recent purchases because that's always better than a boring list!

Except of course, by the time I get around to pictures the items will look all used up and not brand new at all :D

But for now... I really need your vote! I my iSkin for my iPod is a mess... it seems to like to attract all the dirt in my purse so it's time for a new case. I am getting a Vaja case and I can't decide on a color scheme. Please help me with your vote!

I'd like something catchy, cool but something timeless and not too "trendy"... which color combo do you like?

Latte & Rosa

Very "muted" and "safe"... This is a good combination but is it too boring? A little bit on the girly side... but they do make a good color duo.

Reed Yellow & Golden Ochre

A little bit brighter, definitely an attention getter. I love the peachy yellow but not too sure yet about the orange. It has a slightly "Hermes Orange" tint to it but... will I get bored of this too quick?

or do I go classic...
White & Grey

Go with the original iPod colors and get a boring case. Matchy... but I'm afraid this one will get dirty too easily.

Please cast your votes by posting a comment... For you lurkers (I know you're out there!) you can leave an anonymous vote if you'd like... I'd like to order one this weekend!

Thanks :)

Attention girls! It's almost time for Neiman Marcus' beauty event. Suppress your Sephora urges until March 3-9.

This year's beauty gift includes:
FRESH Rice Sake Bath 35ml & Sake Eau de Parfum Scent Card
ACQUA DI PARMA Iris Nobile Eau de Toilette 2ml
GUCCI Envy Me Eau de Toilette 1.7ml
MOLTON BROWN Heavenly Gingerlily Bath & Shower Gel 1oz
ORLANE PARIS High Definition Firming Cream 3.5ml

MICHAEL KORS Shimmering Self Tanner .5oz
LANCOME PARIS Mascara in Black .09oz
... all in an NM printed tote in black, mint green, or pink.

I can't wait! So many things I'm looking at right now or thinking to buy are samples included in this... I've been looking for an eye cream... looks like I can try the Orlane or Darphin one. I've also wanted to try YSL's Touche Eclat since I started using the Dior Skinflash so this is another plus. Kiehl's Lotion sample will be great for a purse carry and also I've been looking for a good peel to rejuvenate my skin and the Natura Bisse one is included. The Kors tanner will be great to get me in the mood for Spring and also I -love- Gucci's Envy Me so that sample is a plus too.

Now it's just time to think about the $85 I need to spend to get this gift...
Maybe a Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer refill, maybe Gucci Envy Me fragrance set? Or maybe Jo Malone's silky body creme in Lime Basil & Mandarin. Maybe some eye cream or new eye color from Nars.

I can't wait.

Vuitton vs. Mulberry

For the past couple of weeks I've been debating over these two bags....

The Mulberry Roxanne... Just starting to get the coverage it deserves here in the US.... however I wanted the yellow and all I can seem to find is the aqua, red and oak. I love the utility of having a lot of pockets, but I was iffy on the size because it seemed a little too big for a shoulder bag. I like that the bag is muted and doesn't scream a designer name, but it has its own distinct look and style. Plus the leather is a perfect, sturdy matte leather.

So I started leaning towards the Louis Vuitton Manhattan... I've been wanting an LV monogram bag but I haven't liked any of the shapes until I saw this one. I love the pockets and Marc Jacobs styling but I wasn't sure that I wanted a tote- I need a bag I can sling over my shoulders. Still I decided to hold out for this bag- until I found out that the release date is sometime in April but might be pushed back (like the rest of the limited edition line from the Spring runway) and the list starts now. Well I got my name on the list but I needed a bag to satisfy my craving NOW.

So on Tuesday I decided to stop by Barney's to see if (maybe) they had the Mulberry in Yellow in stock. And that's when I saw it.

Wait... could it be? If any of you live in LA you can vouch for the fact that Barney's NEVER has any regular-sized Balenciaga bags in stock. They usually only have the small clutches and evening metallic bags... and once in a while an oversized bag. And I've been dying for the twiggy (kind of like a duffle bag) since I saw a black one back in December... and I've never seen another one since then. I was iffy on the color at first but the more I looked at it the more I fell in love with it. Plus this was a great way to solve the tote vs. shoulder bag conflict! This was my chance and I took it :)

As I was paying for it, I asked the SP... "You guys never have the regular sizes in stock, when did you get this in?"

He told me that they actually got them in on the Friday before but they were saving them for Demi Moore who was upstairs. They showed them all to her and brought the extras (5 bags left) down literally 30 seconds before I walked in and grabbed the last one.

*Phew*

BCBG Cardi-wraps

LA weather has been going from cold to sunny within a matter of hours. The best way to keep warm? I've been addicted to these BCBG Cardigan wraps~ they're great as a light cardigan during the day, and make a cozy wrap for nighttime.

So far I've collected them in sage green, dark blue, peach and black. I also have a cropped one in teal. They come in cotton, silk blends, wool blends, cashmere blends and pure cashmere. So far I've noticed that the wool + silk blend pills the most! So stay away from this one. But the cotton+ silk seems to be okay.

I love to wear the regular length over jeans or even over sweats. They are easy to dress up for nighttime too. I usually wrap the left over the front under the right arm and the right side I toss over my left shoulder. You can also add a brooch to secure the wrap but the fabrics are so delicate I wouldn't use a brooch unless you have decided to permanently use one (as the hole can probably stretch).

The cropped ones are cute to wrap around or you can tie them in the front. I have the teal color so I usually like to wear contrasting colors underneath like baby blue or yellow.

They are so versatile... here are other ways to wear:

Barneys Warehouse Sale!

Started today ~.~ This time around I noticed that they started doing TV commercials as well as even more billboards... so just as expected the Santa Monica Airport Hangar was packed!

I made a small score... I found some shoes to start off spring! I really wanted to find slip-on sandals that gave me a little bit of lift and these two were the perfect pairs!

Christian Louboutin ~ $155
Costume National ~ $115
both retailed for over $400!

The only other things I picked up were some Rogan T-Shirts.

If you are thinking of hitting up the sale, here are some things that I noticed:
~ Lots and lots of Marc Jacobs jackets, circa Spring 2004, starting at $139
~ A ton of Diane vonFurstenberg silk tank tops and dresses in "leftover" prints $49 and up
~ Theory basic pants in black, charcoal and brown at around $99 each
~ A lot of tweed and wool coats, mostly the Barney's private label brand

The shoes section was packed with lots of great finds, although I think most of the good stuff was in the 8 & 81/2 section. The 91/2 + section was pretty bare :( They had a lot of really nice boots by Manolo Blahnik and Prada and some sexy basic black shoes by Narciso Rodriguez.

Accessories were a bore, just a place to dump some really bad quality private label Marc Jacobs knock-off bags.

Underground Denim

Today was my first time going to Underground Denim, a denim-based warehouse sale where you can find all the newest & hottest names in denim. UD does kind of a college tour so no matter where you are, chances are there will be a UD sale near you very soon! I took a sneak peek at their upcoming schedule for the next few months and they are hitting up a lot of college campuses nationwide.

Why you'll go: Because you're tired of hearing "Nordstrom Rack just got a new shipment of Sevens!" and by the time you arrive there is only one left in a size 24. Because you can never own too many pairs of jeans. Because with the speed of fashion these days, who pays retail? And lastly, of course, you love to brag to your friends how you scored at a secret underground warehouse sale.

What you'll find: They normally have a lot of Chip & Pepper, True Religion, James Jeans and Rock & Republic. They also have Yanuk jeans and cords but in limited numbers. They also carry smaller labels like AG or J&Co. Lastly they have some Seven jeans but in an even more limited number. All denim are $74 a pair. In addition, they have tops by Splendid, Seven and R&R ($15-25) and skirts by True Religion & Chip & Pepper. Get there early. Community dressing rooms. They also have a good selection of TR, C&P, and R&R for men.

What I found: I found a pair of True Religion Destroyed jeans. (yay!) However, it took me going through 4 pairs before I found a decent pair. One had a broken zipper, one had a large run on the leg, and another had a rip up the hem. The one I stuck with seemed to be in tip-top shape except for some of the frays (in the destroyed part) were loose. I would have stayed and shopped some more but lately there have been too much James Jeans, Yanuk, and Chip & Pepper going on sale everywhere so I've gotten pretty sick of seeing them.

Tips & Advice: All these jeans for $74??? There must be a catch! Actually, there is. Things that sound too good to be true, usually are. :) Even though all of the denim they carry are authentic, they are able to price them cheaply because they are all seconds, or irregulars. IRR's can encompass anything from holes in the fabric to broken zippers. Most of them were pretty bad damages (the kind you can't pull off as regular, even if you get them fixed) but if you spend enough time there you can find some decent jeans. My suggestion: after you find a style you like, grab 3 or 4 and TRY THEM ON until you find a perfect pair. Sometimes you won't see the holes or the dye stains (which are sometimes in really obscure spots, like the crotch) that you won't see until you try them on. Also trying them on is a good way to test out the zipper and the buttons. Remember~ 100% of their items are irregulars or damages so be careful! All sales are final (they are usually just a 1 day event) and nothing is worse than finding a hole in the jeans 10 minutes before you're about to wear them out.

Where to go?: The only way to find out if Underground Denim will be visiting your city is to sign up to their mailing list online. Go to www.undergrounddenim.com.

Peaches n Cream

This Spring I am putting away all of my smoky-eye, smudgy, dark make-up and going light. A lot of the casual looks I pull together don't go with a fully made-up face so I am going minimalist... although it takes just as much time. (and just as much make-up) I am in love with peaches and blush pinks right now... so here is how I put it together:

PREPPING:

After toner and moisturizer, I prep my face with NARS foundation primer. This leaves a thin layer of silicone on your face that fills up all the pores and imperfections so that your foundation and color go on smoothly and naturally. I've tried a couple of primers but my favorite is still the NARS. Then I use Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer in Fawn. This LM tint is light and sheer but comes on dewey and gives my skin a healthy glow. The combination of these two items is perfect for the flawless skin look during the day! For nighttime, you can replace the tinted moisturizer with your favorite foundation. For me though, I don't like heavy foundations so I save that for special occasions. On a regular night out I stick with the tinted moisturizer but I set it with Chanel loose powder.

HIGHLIGHTS:

My favorite base for the eyes is the Christian Dior Skinflash. It is kind of like a concealer and highliter in one. The brush is a little bit hard to use, so I only use it to apply the skinflash on my entire eye area (lash line to browline) with a few strokes then I blend in with my pinky finger. I put a small amount under my eye too, to get rid of darkness underneath the eyes. Just this much of the skinflash immediately opens up the eye area and brightens it up!

CHEEKS:
On the cheeks I like to use a combination of two things. Sometimes I use one or the other, and for nighttime I use both (cream blush first, then set with powder blush)

My favorite cream blush of all time has to be the NARS Multiple Stick. For Spring, I've chosen South Beach. This is as easy as make-up gets, just a couple of swipes across your cheekbones then blend with your fingers.

Another favorite of mine is the Benefit blush in Georgia. Again, my main theme for this Spring is peach so this is pretty much the centerpiece. I apply it to the apples of my cheeks for a flush of color. For a more dramatic look, I add Benefit bronzer in Hoola at the hollows of my cheek and brush upwards towards my ear. This creates a highlight and gives the cheeks more depth. (Which is great for days I'm feeling bloated ~.~)

EYES:
With the peachy cheeks being the centerpiece, I like to keep the eyes simple. They've already been highlighted with skinflash (for a flawless, satin finish in skin tone). I just add a couple of strokes of Chanel Ruban Perle in Moonlight to accentuate the highlighted eyes. (In the evening I like to use Sunlight. I know, it's backwards, but it really works with the look :P)

Then, again keeping it simple, I've ditched all of my eyelines and I go straight to Mascara. My favorite is Shu Uemura Basic Mascara because it glides on smoothly without and clumps and adds just the right amount of length and thickness.

A brow brush is essential for flawless lashes: first to get rid of any clumps and second to separate each lash for a natural look.

LIPS:
The only variation I have with my looks lately are for my lips. This is really to match any mood or outfit.

For casual days, I put on a couple of layers of Too Faced Lip Injection. The plumping effect has pretty much worn off on me but I love the naturally flushed color it gives my lips. Because the "stinging" brings more bloodflow to your lips (hence making them plump) this also results in a naturally pink pout. It's also great to keep your lips moist all day!

For dressier days, I like to do a completely nude lip. The best equipment to do this is by Scott Barnes: a combination of his lip pencil and lip slick which will give you a solidly nude (but glossy) pout.

For my denim days I've fallen in love with Shu Uemura's Sweet Lip Gloss in Orchid Candy. Maybe I love the way these glosses smell more than anything but they are a good upgrade to Lancome's Juicy Tubes.
